MODEL HISTORY

Typewriters or fast cars, this was the choice for young Burkard, son of the German Bovensiepen family that by trade made typewriters. This was back in 1960s when in the face of a disapproving German Automotive manufacturing industry Burkard established Alpina, a BMW tuning business. Tinkering with carburettors and cylinder heads Burkard had success with the then current BMW 1500 range in 1963 and by 1965 Alpina had a turnover of 200K and seven employees.

Alpina really established itself from 1968 with a hugely successful racing career that spanned 9 winning years, the highlight being 1970 in which Alpina team cars won the electrifying European touring car championship, the German hill climbing championship and the prestigious Spa 24 hour race. Legendary race drivers Derek Bell, Niki Lauda and Hans Stuck have all raced Alpina prepared BMW 2002s and CS coupes during their racing careers.

Since 1970 Alpina have had TUV status allowing them to build and register cars as Alpina rather than under the BMW badge. All Alpina cars can still be bought through BMW dealerships and still fall inside BMWs warranty scheme, a testament to Alpinas engineering achievement and ability.

The E39 Alpina B10 was first introduced in 1997 and was the first Alpina to be based on the E39 platform with a V8 Powerplant pushing out 340 bhp. This was a direct rival to BMW M Gmbh's E39 V8 M5. For this model Alpina cast a complete new 4.4 litre found in the BMW 540i on which it was based. Other engine modifications included lighter high-compression Mahle pistons, a new crankshaft. In 2002, Alpina introduced the car with 340 bhp as a pose to the 286 bhp 540i from BMW. This was a significant increase in power.

EXTERIOR

This stunning B10 V8 presents beautifully in Titan Silver Metallic 354. The mighty 5 is in good condition all around with only a dusting of stone chips to the bumper and bonnet to report, which makes this car genuine and honest for a 18 year old 340 bhp machine. The black trims that run around the windows are display a high shine. Pleasingly, typical areas such as rear arches, sills and boot edge / lock are also clean and clear of cosmetic issues. The Alpina has some very minor age related imperfections as it has covered 108,000 miles by 5 owners, but we have had  full detailing carried out to make the shiny paintwork looks its best and also we have had the classic 18 inch wheels refurbished, shod with matching Michelin Super Sport 3 tyres.

Despite the mileage this Alpina presents in stunning condition having clearly been cherished by its 5 owners. We are pleased to see this car once again and feel honoured to be selling such a special rare car, We supplied this car a number of years ago and we are selling this car, as the owner purchased a Alpina B7 from ourselves. The previous owner has had some upgrades carried out, updating the front and rear lights for the face lift model lights, this gives the car a modern stance.

INTERIOR

One of the best things about a genuine Alpina is opening the drivers door and smelling the real leather. Being Alpina, they use only the finest quality leather and the whole interior has a Individual feel and its a very nice place to be in. The comfort electric/memory/heated seats present themselves well and are in great condition, the leather still has a soft feel and has the matt look. Looks far from the miles it has covered and all electrics work as they should. Very minimal interior wear and the leather has been conditioned by ourselves to preserve its softness. The headlining is covered in Alpina Alcantara, also surrounding the Alpina build number plaque. The extended leather package includes more leather on door cards, dash and door handles with the classic alpina squared cress colours engraved. This car has a full black interior including Walnut Alpina gloss interior trim surrounded with some black leather.

ENGINE/ SERVICE HISTORY

The B10 has a full BMW service history up to 55k, 2 specialist stamps at 71k and 85k by RW Autos BM Specialists, 99k at Sytner BMW and finally ourselves at 105k . Originally being supplied  back in 2000 by Sytner of Nottingham, who are UK's Alpina agent. In the service history file we have a comprehensive paperwork backing up most of the service, Olds MOT certificates, warranty work and maintenance of the car. The car has 2 original remote keys, full tool kit, leather Alpina pouch with all the instruction manuals, service booklet and a A4 wallet full of invoices and reports.

We have had the following changed  on the last service on 23/10/2017 by our experienced Ex BMW main dealer technicians: Full Service kit (Castrol 0w30 oil, Air filter, Oil Filter, Micro Filter), Bosch Alternator, Continental Auxiliary Belt, Front drop links, Front discs and pads, 2 front wheel bearings, both cam cover gaskets, 8 x NGK Spark plugs, new camshaft sensor, new crankshaft sensor, ZF Gearbox oil change, new Bosch battery, new radiator and hoses and front ball joints.

The Alpina drives perfect and shows no sign of giving up on any A or B road, handles very well for a super saloon with masses of torque and power. At the same time, this car was built for the German auto bahns and is an absolute pleasure the to drive on the motorways/dual carriageways. Brakes in a strait line, delivers the 360 horses smoothly and every second of pushing the V8 to its limit is enjoyable whilst the iconic V8 growls. We are impressed with what a massive difference the Sport option located on the auto lever makes. The car becomes much sportier and gear changes are quicker, also feel more of a change when using the Switchtronic +- buttons on the steering wheel as a pose to the normal D mode

We are selling the E39 B10 V8 for £8295. This is priced well as its a rare car and has brilliant investment opportunity. We have driven and previously sold the E60 B5 models and in our opinion, this E39 is a better car as the E60 and F10 Alpina's have lost the real Alpina feel and seem to be a bit too refined. The car will be supplied with a 12 month MOT and 6 months comprehensive warranty.
